Wear gloves when you apply it and when you rinse it out, too. It will stain basically anything it touches. Not sure if that's true but I usually let it sit for at least a couple hours under a shower cap before I rinse. Also, you can leave it on for as long as you want, and I've read the longer you sit with it, the more slowly it fades. I add a bit of leftover dye to my conditioner and let it sit while I finish my shower, which helps. I wash my hair twice a week in cold water with no sulfate shampoo and it still fades pretty quickly from my unbleached hair. It fades pretty quickly from the virgin unbleached sections of my hair.

I'm definitely not an expert but here's what I've learned! The first time I was surprised at how dark it turned out. The brown hair turns a really deep purple, definitely noticeable on my hair, but much more so in bright lighting. I've used Purple Rain a few times on my naturally medium dark brown hair with highlights. But after the first wash or two, I live in Texas, I ride horses in the sun, my forehead doesn't turn purple, neither do my clothes.Īlso, on dark hair, don't expect vibrancy, but it will be noticeable in the sun.

My skin took on the color of the hair :) It was not pretty. I have NEVER had it stain my clothes, but I did once work out after dying my hair, and before washing it for the first time ( I do rinse and shampoo very well when removing the dye the first time). As I said, first week is pretty bad usually, although purple has better luck than, say, blue. I am assuming that with normal life it will eventually wash out. Purple rain lasts a about 6 weeks on my hair, after which is just becomes duller, but I have never let it just go away. Although putting color matched nailpolish on for that week isn't a bad idea.ĪF, on my hair, both virgin and otherwise, is inconsistent, just like all the other semipermanent colors :) It really depends on the quality and state of your hair, the weather, shampoo, and just plain luck. Rubbing alcohol, facial wipes, sanitizers, all take care of that problem. That should, theoretically, pass within a week. Including a photo also helps and will likely get you more responses.įollow FF on Instagram the beginning, it will run a little bit and transfer onto your hands and pillow case, most likely.
